Jared Funk
On Wednesday, November 25th Royal Bank of Canada Paralympian, Jared Funk, came to Niji Mahkwa to speak to Ms. Jackson, Mr. Bignell and Ms. Mytopher’s classes about his journey as an olympian. Jared has won two Paralympic medals in wheelchair rugby - a silver in Athens and a bronze in Beijing. With the 2010 Winter Olympics coming up in February in Vancouver, BC many RBC Olympians are taking time to speak to others about their involvement in the Olympics. Jared’s visit is part of our collaboration with the Ladybug Foundation. The Ladybug Foundation was started by a Hannah Taylor when she was in Grade 2 to help homelessness in Winnipeg. They have developed a makeChange program for schools to teach students about ways they can make a difference in other people’s lives. Our school will be holding a bake/button sale before and after our Winter Concert on Thursday, December 10th. The money we raise will go to the Ladybug Foundation to support their continuing efforts to help homelessness in Winnipeg. We hope everyone will come out to support this great cause and help make a change in the lives of others.
